In what looks like an endearing mother-daughter story, ‘Nil Battey Sannata’, starring Swara Bhaskar, Ratna Pathak Shah and Ria Shukla, aims to answer this question. Directed by Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari, the trailer raises an important conversation on how social divisions have been made so concrete that even aspiring to achieve something bigger seems unreal to most. It also shows how one’s present conditions (however difficult they may be), can’t take away the promise of a brighter future.
The playful mother-daughter banter, in turn, reveals a pressing concern faced by many parents struggling to educate their children. Stuck in an endless cycle of illiteracy and poverty, how do you make sure your children get a shot at a better life? The movie will hopefully create an important conversation around this.
